Ask Jewell
Q. As a single person, what would be the best way to respond to anxious family members who pressure you to marry and start a family and then start offering dating advice?
A. I would first suggest that you let your family members who undoubtedly loves you and wants the very best for your life to know that this pressure makes you feel uncomfortable. I would also suggest that you share your desire for marriage and what you believe God’s plans are for your life during this season. Let them know that you’re trusting God to bring you a mate if that is what you desire. This should help to put the family member to ease.
On the flip side, don’t put God in a box. Remember that story about the man who was waiting for God to save him but three different men came in a boot, ship and helicopter. God can use family members and friends to hook you up. Therefore, let them know the type of man of you desire so they will know if the person they are hooking you up can potentially be your prince charming.
