Our Readers

We want our readers to "see" themselves in the articles we publish. The majority of our readers are middle-class, college-educated Christian women between 25-55 (median age 40). They are busy rearing children, juggling career while still desiring to fulfill their purpose. Our readers are concerned with finances, communication, church involvement, time management, parenting, sex, conflict management—everyday, nitty-gritty issues. Rather than presenting an idealized portrait of marriage and family, we work hard to present a realistic image of life that makes our readers say, "Yes, that's how it is in my house!"

Our Writers

Writers who can communicate with freshness, clarity, and insight will receive serious consideration. We are looking for writers who are willing to speak candidly about their own marriages. We prefer electronic submissions to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Editor reserves the right to accept and/or reject any article.

Manuscript should be typed double-spaced. Do not use headers or footers. Use only regular text, left-justified. In addition to the author's mailing and email address, the first page should include his/her phone number, subject of article (listed below) and the word length. Examples of Articles that our readers would like to see:

  • Hot Topics: for those who may want to voice their opinion on issues that may impact married people's lives today, such as celebrity divorces, infertility or pornography. These articles need to avoid a preachy tone; fully describe the specific issue and provide authoritative research and/or up-to-date statistics; incorporate real-life illustrations from couples our readers can relate to; present a distinct Christian perspective. Length: 1,500-2000 words.
  • Testimonial: a third-person, true-life dramatic narrative/profile that describes how a couple worked through a difficult situation, event, or turning point in their marriage. Also could be a profile of a couple in a unique ministry. (Note: this department looks at the profile of the marriage, not the spouses. Also, bring the story back to how the situation impacted the marriage.) Length: 1,500 words.
  • Working It Out: a true-life creative solution to a common marriage problem (written in a his-side/her-side/what-they-did format). Length: 1,000 words.
  • Soul 2 Soul: a spiritual life piece that conveys your revelation on how to live and love by faith. Length: 1,200 words.
  • Newlyweds: a first-person narrative that deals with issues, challenges, and adjustments specific to the early years of marriage. Should convey the idea of "what I wish someone would have told me before I got married." Must be married no more than five years. Length: 1000 words.
  • Happily Ever After: seasoned couples who will provide words of wisdom that will help the younger generations. Must be married over 20 years. Length: 1000 words.
  • For Men Only: First-person piece written from a man’s perspective that will either 1) help women to better understand men or 2) allow men to become better husbands. Length: 1,000-1,500 words.
  • Other: we will accept poems, advice, or things you do that are unique, creative, or fun as a couple. Length: 400 words or less.
