Victory in 2009
This year and this month mark a new day in history as Barack Obama becomes the first black president of the United States. After reading many newspaper articles and magazines as well as watching the television, it is clear that this historical event brings pride and hope to all, especially black Americans. It proves to us exactly what God can do.
Barack Obama is living out his God-given purpose. This in itself shows us that nothing is impossible to them that believe.
But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides (Matthew 6:33 amp).
In other words, seek God above all else, and live righteously, and He will give you everything you need.
For some of us, we know in part our God-given purpose. And we are pursuing and working diligently to achieve it. However, we must remember not to neglect our primary God-given purpose, which is the calling of wife and mother.
Because most of us claim to be virtuous women, let us take a look at the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31 amplified (verses 11-12, 15-17, 25-28 and 30):
The heart of her husband trusts in her confidently and relies on and believes in her securely, so that he has no lack of [honest] gain or need of [dishonest] spoil. She comforts, encourages, and does him [my addition-her husband] only good as long as there is life within her. She rises while it is yet night and gets [spiritual] food for her household She considers a [new] field [my addition-assignment] before she buys or accepts it [expanding prudently and not courting neglect of her present duties by assuming other duties]; with her savings [of time and strength] she plants fruitful vines in her vineyard. She girds herself with strength [spiritual, mental, and physical fitness for her God-given task] and makes her arms strong and firm. Strength and dignity are her clothing and her position is strong and secure; she rejoices over the future [the latter day or time to come, knowing that she and her family are in readiness for it]! She opens her mouth in skillful and godly Wisdom, and on her tongue is the law of kindness [giving counsel and instruction]. She looks well to how things go in her household, and the bread of idleness (gossip, discontent, and self-pity) she will not eat. Her children rise up and call her blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied); and her husband boasts of and praises her Charm is deceptive, and beauty does not last; but a woman who fears the LORD will be greatly praised.
When working toward and fulfilling our God-given purposes, lets keep Proverbs in the forefront of our minds, especially the two scriptures that are highlighted, so we can remain faithful to that which He has called us to do first.
For others, who may not know what God is calling them to do, seek God and discover what He wants for your life. It is finding that vision that will drive you and sustain you to finish the course. Once you have identified your God-given vision, write it down and strive after it wholeheartedly.
Habakkuk 2:2-3 tells us to Write my [my addition-God] answer plainly on tablets, so that a runner [my addition-you] can carry the correct message to others. This vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.
We all have a God-given purpose and a time to fulfill it. Be patient, work diligently, and do not neglect the other things God has called you to do. For all of us, take this month to pray, [even fast] to see what God wants us to accomplish this year.
Remember, we should not look at President Barack Obama as our hope but as an example of hope and what God can do. God is our hope. He is the one who opens doors. He is the one who will give us everything we need when we seek Him first and do things His way. This is how we as women can be victorious in 2009.
